week 6: current issues, institutionalization of asam studies & identity formation

screenshot of email says, "hi everyone, happy spring break!

we'll be meeting virtually on sunday, 3/13, 4-5pm (yes for just one hour!). anna and i wanted to try out ways of teaching/learning together that may be more accessible and sustainable than meeting for multiple hours in-person or through screens, so we put together some fun ~asynchronous~ activities based on this week's readings!

the readings are listed on this doc, and other than the Schlund-Vials piece and the poem video, please sign up for an additional reading/viewing. try to distribute your sign-ups (1-2 people per reading) so we can cover all the material.

when you complete your readings, go explore the padlet. your main task will be to provide context for the additional reading you chose and connect it to the general readings that everyone did. this can be brief (pick a quote and why you chose it), creative, informal... the only guideline is: what would you want someone who didn't do this reading to know about it?

*rmbr to check back on the padlet later to see and interact with everyone else's thoughts!

during the sun 3/13 meeting, we'll do elisa's show & tell (woooo), go over the padlet briefly, and then talk logistical stuff (blog, feedback form, facilitating how-to worksheet, etc––all will be explained).

loveee,
serena + anna"
  • What are the flashpoint issues and crises of Asian America today?
  • How can Asian American studies help us navigate these issues? Should it?
  • How might we position APIA studies within the larger context of contemporary justice movements/projects?
