nicole & ashley

Screenshot of google doc says, "Questions for Nicole (in progress!):
1. What's your name, class year, and where's home to you? Nicole Kim, class of 2025 which makes me a first year! I'm from New York City
2. What's your favorite Sharples bar? Probably one of the salad bars. I love the specialty salad (nutty goat is so good), the very berry salad, and the Cobb salad (avocados!)
3. Why did you join this class? Professora Mayorga had told me that there was an independent study that was in the works related to many of the topics I had expressed interest in. Given the fact that there weren't many spaces to discuss ethnic studies on campus, I thought this class would be a great way to explore that passion of mine.
4. Major and why? Math and English. Indecision.
5. What are you excited for this summer? I'm excited to see my family again and also pursue some internship and research work I have set up.
6. Do you feel Asian? Sometimes. I feel more Korean than I do Asian, honestly. A lot of that has changed since I've gotten older, and I think I've now become more accustomed to my Asian identity."

Screenshot of google doc says, "Questions for Ashley: 1. name, class yr, home state. My name is Ashley Huang! I'm a sophomore (class of 2023) and I'm from San Diego, CA. 2. How did you learn about this class? Why did you decide to join it? I learned about this class from Serena, who's also in it! I decided to join because I felt like it would be a really unique experience to both augment my knowledge of Asian American studies/ ethnic studies and get the chance to learn to process of running a student-led course. 3. Do you consider campus home? Somewhat-- there are moments where Swarthmore feels really homely and other times when I feel a little lost or out-of-place here. 4. Do you miss home? I do a lot now, a lot more than I did freshman year. But I do credit going to Swat for helping me appreciate San Diego so much more. 5. What are you majoring in? Why? Economics because I think it provides a useful-- if sometimes flawed-- way of examining our world. Art history because I like learning about how art both mirror and influences the world outside of it. 6. Do you feel Asian? Yeah, quite so. I grew up in an area with a lot of other Asian people so I've always been able to connect with my identity. 7. What does community look like to you? Community support, love, and joy! It's a place where you can be yourself without fear of judgement."
